Parent Counseling & Guidance Group

At Hispanic Community Counseling Services (HCCS), we recognize the vital role parents play in supporting their children’s mental health and well-being. Our Parent Counseling & Guidance Group provides culturally sensitive, trauma-informed support to empower parents in North Philadelphia with the tools, knowledge, and community they need to navigate their children’s emotional and behavioral challenges.

What is the Parent Counseling & Guidance Group?

The Parent Counseling & Guidance Group at HCCS offers a supportive environment for parents and guardians of children and youth (ages 5 and older) facing mental health or behavioral issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance use. Our bilingual and bicultural therapists facilitate both individual counseling and group-based sessions that focus on understanding children’s needs, improving family communication, and fostering resilience.

Rooted in Hispanic cultural values like
familismo (family importance) and respeto (respect), our services use evidence-based approaches, including parenting skills training, family systems therapy, and trauma-informed care, to create tailored strategies that strengthen family bonds and promote healing.

Our Services

  • Individual Parent Counseling: One-on-one sessions with a therapist to address specific concerns, develop parenting strategies, and support parents in managing stress or challenges related to their child’s mental health.
  • Guidance Groups: Facilitated group sessions where parents connect with peers, share experiences, and learn practical skills for supporting children with emotional or behavioral issues in a culturally relevant setting.
  • Parenting Skills Training: Workshops and sessions focused on effective communication, boundary-setting, and understanding developmental needs, tailored to Hispanic cultural contexts.
  • Family Therapy Integration: Opportunities to engage in family therapy alongside group or individual support, ensuring a cohesive approach to addressing the child’s needs with family involvement.
